Mini series

The images in the section ‘portfolio’ are the stand-alone images that I – for what it’s worth – consider to be my best.

The mini series in this section are broader. They are short series of typically 5-10 images that either tell a story together, of have a certain stylistic element in common. This is the overview, click on the headline images to link to the full series.

Mastering Light and Shadow
Copenhagen, Denmark – Leica M10 Monochrom, Summilux 50mm f/1.4 ASPH LE

I had the great pleasure of attending a workshop on black and white photography hosted by Leica Store Copenhagen and Bobby Anwar (http://www.bobbyanwar.com). It was a great learning opportunity and source of inspiration. Walking around with a pro and getting tips on what his trained eye sees challenges and boosts your own vision.

Rain in Portugal
Porto, Portugal – Leica M10 Monochrom, Summilux 50mm f/1.4 ASPH LE

Portugal is in the South – at least if you come from Northern Europe. So you think sunshine, warmth. But Portugal is also on the Atlantic Coast. My favourite photographer and I went for a few days to Porto in the north of Portugal to explore and photograph the city. And what we met was, more than anything, a city on the Atlantic coast.

Mexico after hours
San Miguel de Allende, Mexico – Leica Q2 Monochrom, Summilux 28mm f/1.7 ASPH

I am fortunate that my professional life takes me around the world a lot. Over the years, I have frequently been visiting Mexico, and although most of my time there is spent in factories, hotels, or airports, I do manage to ‘steal’ a few hours now and then after work to explore the local cities with a camera. – I always throw a Leica in the bag when I travel…!

Fayetteville
Fayetteville, Arkansas – Leica M11, Summilux 50mm f/1.4 ASPH LE

Fayetteville, Arkansas, is a town in North West Arkansas – grown into one larger urban area with Springdale and Bentonville – like many others. With a university campus, it is sprawling with life in some areas, while time seems to have been standing still in others.

The other America
Jay, Oklahoma – Leica M11, Summilux 50mm f/1.4 ASPH

One of my favourite ways of spending time is to get away from where everyone else goes, and explore the ‘everyday places’. I am not good in crowds at tourist sites – I feel I learn a lot more about the place I am in by trying to get under the skin of the place itself, away from everything that is arranged to convey a certain appearance.

I recently spent a weekend in the central part of the United States on a work matter. In between work obligations, I managed to find time to explore the area where Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri meet and stroll around in towns that foreigners have never heard of.

In my own country, Denmark – half the size of the state of Indiana – it is a topic how to keep the outer parts of the country, the rim, connected to the more urban areas (‘Udkantsdanmark’). In comparison, the distance – not physical, but in every way – between downtown New York or Los Angeles, and the small sleepy towns in the Mid-South Central USA that once were, is astronomical.

Port Blue Hour
Rostock, Germany – Leica M9, Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.5

I am not the first photographer to love the light during the ‘blue hour’. And the CCD sensor in the Leica M9 is particularly well suited to capture the mood of the light at this time of day with its somewhat film-like color rendition.

The series here is from the ferry port in Rostock, Germany, while waiting for the ferry to arrive.

Fall
Tisvilde Hegn, Denmark – Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM

The fall is a time of decay, but also a time of color, low light, and – on the calm afternoons with no wind when the sun sets early – a feeling of peace and serenity.

And when you look carefully, there are plenty of nature’s wonders to photograph.

Plenty of color
Copenhagen, Denmark – Leica M11, Summilux 50mm f/1.4 ASPH LE
Slava Ukraini
Copenhagen, Denmark – Leica M11, Summilux 50mm f/1.4 ASPH LE

There was a tangible feeling in the air of support to Ukraine when a large crowd gathered to hear President Zelensky speak in front of the Parliament building when he visited Copenhagen.
